Queenstown Overview with Richard Hawke – Part Two

May 23, 2016 0 comments

In our previous blog we caught up with Richard Hawke, our Area Manager for Queenstown and Southland. Richard previously shared some information on his background along with a brief overview of the Queenstown Market.

Our discussion with Richard continues as he comments on the Hospitality and Construction sectors in the Queenstown area, shedding some light on the most in demand roles in Queenstown, along with some advice for both our Clients in the area and Candidates who are considering working in Queenstown.

Hospitality

Richard discusses the most in demand roles in the Queenstown area, and suggests that good Hospitality staff are key during the peak seasons. Whether they be Chefs of all levels of experience, or waiting staff, good people with industry experience will have little trouble finding work in the region.

However, long-term, more challenges may present themselves. Richard believes that that it’s important for clients to acknowledge that many of their staff will leave the area after the peak seasons, as many of those coming to work in Queenstown within the Hospitality sector are travelling.

Construction

Richard suggests that those that are experienced and can present their skillset within their trade will more often than not find work in Queenstown quite quickly, with skilled drivers and operators being some of the more in-demand roles in the market right now.

Watch the video above to find out more about Queenstown’s burgeoning construction sector, factors that will increase your chances of landing a role, and also has valuable information for those looking to Queenstown from overseas.

We’d like to thank Richard for his detailed insights into the Queenstown market and his advice, which we are sure will be invaluable to many. Be sure to check back in over the next few weeks as Richard will share his insights on the current market in the Invercargill and Southland area.
