Part of Queensgate Shopping Centre to be Demolished

Part of the Queensgate Shopping Centre and the Event Cinemas in Wellington look as though they will be demolished after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake made them unsafe for the public. The shopping centre itself, however, is still structurally sound and open to the public.

Building Activity Strong – But Will it Be Enough?

All nine North Island regions consented to more new dwellings last year, compared to the previous year, as yearly building consents rise to a 12-year high. With a large construction boom across the North Island, construction firms are finding it hard to keep up and some reports suggest that the increase in housing will not be enough.

Demolition of Auckland’s Downtown shopping centre is finishing and earthworks are beginning for the $850 million Commercial Bay office/shopping/dining precinct in the CBD.

Demolition was meticulous with as much steel and concrete taken out and recycled. The new office tower will host around 100 shops, bars, restaurants and cafes.

10m Tall Lego Christmas Tree Largest in Southern Hemisphere

The 10m tall Lego Christmas tree in Auckland’s Aotea square is New Zealand’s biggest Lego Christmas tree and the biggest of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

Ryan ‘The Brick Man’ McNaught, worked with six other people constructing it in a studio over six weeks before it went on display.
