Auckland Market Overview with Jon Ives

November 18, 2015 0 comments

Our Auckland Director Jon Ives provides insights into the local market. He talks specifically to the in-demand skill sets and on-going projects.

In this week’s blog we caught up with Jon Ives, one of OneStaff’s Directors and our Area Manager for Auckland.

For our candidates, Jon gives an insight into the most sought after job roles and for our clients Jon discusses some of the major construction projects in and around Auckland.

Closer to Auckland

In terms of projects closer to Auckland, Jon says that the city has a lot of large scale projects on. He points out the ongoing industrial development project in Drury, South Auckland, as an example of this. The project has been specifically designed to accommodate the construction and manufacturing industries and will create upwards of 19,000 jobs across the Auckland region. Because of this growth, logistics has also become a high demand job area across the Auckland region.

The Effects of National Projects

With the construction industry growing across the whole of New Zealand, major construction projects such as the Christchurch rebuild and the construction of the Transmission Gully are attracting a significant proportion of tradespeople across the country. Jon believes that Auckland must compete to attract the very best candidates.

Because of this, Jon sees the most in demand roles across New Zealand as Carpenters, and people working in the civil works or engineering sectors.
