In our previous edition of our Market Overview series we met our Area Manager for Bay of Plenty, Matt Groucott. This week, we join the Area Manager for Queenstown and Invercargill, Richard Hawke, whom you may remember from our Queenstown edition.
In our discussion with Richard, he covers the history and future of OneStaff in the Invercargill region, and gives his insight into some of the sought after trades and roles in the area, giving his advice on what Employers can be doing to attract top talent.
OneStaff in Invercargill and the Job Market
Established in 2013, our presence within the Southland region has gone from strength to strength and, as Richard discusses, the future looks bright for OneStaff Invercargill, with significant growth on the horizon.
Richard delves into some of the most sought after roles and trades within the Invercargill region. He highlights four industries as being major contributors to the job market, these being: the Fishing industry, Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter, Construction and Manufacturing and lastly the Dairy industry. Within each of these industries highlights the need for a variety of trades.
The Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter offers a variety of positions such as many different Engineering roles. There is also a shortage of Engineers, Electricians, Carpenters, Welders, Machine Operators and Class 5 Drivers within the region.
Advice to our Clients and Candidates
For Graduates and Students within the region looking for opportunities, Richard suggests looking at apprenticeships. A number of high profile employers within the region offer apprenticeships, and he urges anyone who is interested to contact Richard and his team who can assist you in moving forward.
