Dunedin Market Overview with John Hyde

August 22, 2016 0 comments

We’re back with another Market Overview for one of our locations! This week we sat down with our Area Manager for Otago, John Hyde. John spoke about a number of topics in our conversation with him, ranging from the in-demand roles and skills in the area to advice to employers and what he believes lies ahead for OneStaff in Dunedin.

The Otago Region and Advice to Candidates

Although most of the demand in Dunedin is around the industrial and construction sector, John says  there is also a very niche IT market that is growing larger by the minute. There are also opportunities available for those in Sales, Law, Education and Government, as those professional service roles become more and more prevalent in the market. However, there will always be a demand for people who can get creative with their hands; Trade qualified Carpenters, Electricians, and Plumbers, and there are also permanent roles available in these areas.

Check out the video below to find out more about what employers in Otago are looking for, and the skills you’ll need to get ahead in the region.

Attracting Talent and Advice to our Clients and Employers

Attracting top talent is no easy feat for many companies, but there are certain key things that great candidates look for. John discusses the importance of offering permanent opportunities along with the need for companies to offer the potential of career progression for new hires.

For temporary staff, John talks about the necessity of Employers having superior Health and Safety policies in place.

John goes on to say that although OneStaff’s presence in Dunedin is relatively new, working with a large national organisation has many benefits; including a comprehensive, wide-reaching talent pool and an unmatched commitment to upholding Health & Safety standards.

Watch the video below for more of John’s thoughts on how to attract great people and what candidates are looking for.
