Helping to Beat Heart Disease

April 26, 2017 0 comments

The Tour of New Zealand is a stunning cycle tour which covers 700 kilometres in seven days, and it takes place every two years. It also has a powerful purpose; cyclists are invited to “ride for a cause”.

Our OneStaff Hawkes Bay team was glad to do their bit in sponsorship support of this great sporting event and to assist in the fundraising efforts of their local cyclists. Hawkes Bay was proudly represented this year by a group of 6 local riders, the “Life Pharmacy Dawn Breakers” who competed in the North island leg which began in Kaitaia on 1st April and finished in Wellington at the Parliament Building on 8th April 2017.

The Dawn Breakers’ chosen charity was to ride for the NZ Heart Foundation.  Heart disease is New Zealand’s biggest killer and we would all know friends, acquaintances or family members who have experienced heart disease, so it was a privilege to support the local team, as well as such a great cause.

The Life Pharmacy Dawn Breakers finished in 2nd place in the Men’s Open category! Congratulations to all the Ramblers’ Cycling Club members who took part.

Paul Acten of the Dawn Breakers told us, “Competing in an event like this is twofold. The cycling component can be challenging, and secondly, none of this would happen without support from friends, family and businesses who have engaged with us to make this experience successful and memorable, as well as providing sponsorship and assisting our endeavours to beat heart disease.”

The Tour of New Zealand has raised over $675,000 for a number of charities through its previous events, and we look forward to hearing how much this year’s Tour has raised as the donations continue to roll in.
