Karate Kid, Brianna Higgan, Brings Smiles to OneStaff Wellington

June 14, 2017 0 comments

As a New Zealand-owned company with Kiwi values, we’re an extremely passionate and competitive bunch. At OneStaff, we love hearing about, celebrating and sharing successful sports stories at a local and national level. Sometimes, it’s the stuff that you don’t see on the evening sports news that makes the best stories.

Recently, our busy lives were brightened up by a little ray of sunshine bursting into our reception area. A super cool young lady by the name of Brianna Higgan bounced into our office proudly offering us the chance to purchase some lollies as a way of fundraising for the upcoming World Cup Tournament hosted across the ditch in Australia. “Bree” (as we’re allowed to call her now) did such an awesome sales job that our Wellington Area Manager, Steve Humphrey, raced (walked quickly) over to the shop to grab some cash to pay for his share of lollies.

By the time Steve walked back into the office, Bree had already made herself at home in our reception chair and had set about convincing the rest of the team to buy more lollies, cleverly telling us we could save money by buying more, all whilst sporting an incredibly infectious smile.

Some people may say that this sort of sports trip isn’t unusual, and they would be right, but what makes this young lady so different is her attitude. At only ten years old, Bree is at the very top of karate in Wellington. Last weekend Bree graded to 1st Kyu, so her next grading will take her to black belt. The 2 gold medals she got at the last Wellington tournament, took her total number of medals, to date, to 26. She trains hard three times per week and is the youngest person across NZ and Australia to have earned a second Kyu brown belt. Having recently won double gold in the Wellington Regionals, it’s now time for her to head to the World Cup Tournament in Australia where Bree will proudly represent NZ. Bree told her story so well and with so much pride that we’ve decided to put together a little bit of extra money to help her on her way.

One of the things that struck our Regional Manager, Steve Humphrey, about this awesome young lady, is how prepared she is to get out there and earn her way to Australia armed with a smile and an awesome attitude. And of course, her super supportive and ever watchful mum, Jeanette, who was keeping an eye on her from the car right outside our door.

At OneStaff, we believe that no matter what you do, whether it’s in the busy world of recruitment, or a top sportsperson representing NZ on the world stage, there are some common core values that will always take you to the top. With a fantastic personality, an outstanding work ethic and an awesome, can-do attitude, we think Bree has exactly the right stuff to come home a world champ.

Good luck in Australia, Bree! We can’t wait to hear how you’ve done on the world stage, not just now, but in the years to come.
